“Hearts of Freedom” Book Launch and Community Event
On April 26, 2026, the Calgary community is invited to come together for a meaningful and educational event highlighting the stories of Southeast Asian refugees and their journeys to freedom.
Hosted at the Calgary Vietnamese Canadian Association, this special afternoon will feature the launch of Hearts of Freedom, a powerful collection of stories that sheds light on the experiences of refugees from Southeast Asia. The event will also include a panel discussion with contributors and experts, offering deeper insight into the historical and personal significance behind these stories.
Attendees will have the opportunity to:
Learn about the history and impact of Southeast Asian refugee journeys
Hear directly from authors and speakers involved in Hearts of Freedom
Engage in thoughtful discussion during the panel session
Connect with community members during a reception and book signing
The event will also include a visit to the Journey to Freedom Park, a symbolic space that honours the resilience and courage of refugees who sought a new life in Canada.
This gathering is more than a book launch—it is a chance to reflect, learn, and celebrate the strength of communities shaped by migration and perseverance. Whether you are interested in history, storytelling, or community engagement, this event offers a meaningful way to connect with these important narratives.
