Hong immigrated to Canada at the age of six with her family as refugees. Hong was raised in Calgary, Alberta, and is an alumnus of Forest Lawn High School and the University of Calgary.  Hong has always wanted to be teacher and now has been teaching with the Calgary Board of Education for 15 years. Currently, Hong is a Board member with the Calgary Vietnamese Association for the Encouragement of Learning.
